KILLEEN, TX — A Killeen homeowner shot and killed an 18-year-old who broke into his home Friday morning.
According to the Killeen Police Department, around 9:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of Corinne Drive after a 911 call about a burglary of a habitation. When officers were en-route, they were advised by dispatch that shots were fired,
A preliminary investigation revealed that a man forced his way into a home when he was confronted by the homeowner. The homeowner armed himself and fired gunshots towards the suspect. The suspect fled the area.
Around 9:59 a.m., officers located the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound on Woodlake Drive. He was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Medical Canter.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old James Centron Taylor Mitchell, succumbed to his injuries and pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.
Justice of the Peace Cooke ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
