Tax season is here almost here which means that United Way volunteers are gearing up to provide free tax assistance across Central Texas.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offices open their doors starting Monday and will be offering help through April.

Carlean Stone said that she will be volunteering her time again this year at one of the program's Killeen offices.

"You come in, first come, first serve. Everyone is nice," Stone said.

The volunteers are trained and certified through the program to help out however they can.

"These volunteer are trained. You must be trained in order to work with them. They know all the tax laws," Stone said.

Whether you need help filling out forms or have a tough legal question, the volunteer are available to help however they can.

"We have all the tax laws and we abide by them. There are things we can't do that are out of scope. However, we try to help people as best as we can," Stone said.
