The Harker Heights Police Department is asking residents to avoid the area near Maplewood Drive and Verna Lee Blvd.
Police said high winds caused a utility pole carrying high voltage lines to crack. City emergency services and utilities are making repairs, but police said the power pole near Harker Heights High School is unstable.
"Authorities will provide updates once the area is safe for the motoring public to continue normal traffic flow," said Harker Heights police.
