HARKER HEIGHTS, TX — Harker Heights Ability Sports is just one week away from the start of a new season.
The sports program, geared toward special needs children between the ages of five and 22, features various sports including rock climbing, basketball, bowling and soccer.
This season marks the first time parks and recreation will offer tennis.
Those involved said there is a big need for programs like this in the community.
"There's a ton of kids that just don't have anything to do with a lot of built up energy and so this gives them something to do. It's mostly for kids that can't participate in our leagues or are looking to transition into participating in our leagues," said Jeff Achee, parks and recreation director.
The tennis season will begin March 18 and representatives will continue to accept registrations until spots are full.
