KILLEEN, TX — The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services reported more than 71,000 abuse and neglect cases in 2017.

More than 1,000 of those confirmed cases came from Bell County.

A four-hour telethon in Killeen on Saturday raised donations for kids entering the foster care system.

Across the state of Texas, Rainbow Rooms offer support for social workers who help these children and allow them to pick up brand new items for kids entering substitute care.

Since those rainbow rooms do deplenish, the Bell County Child Welfare Board encouraged folks to come together for four hours and pick up the phone to encourage community members to donate.

The telethon has ended, but the organization accepts donations all year long. They can be contacted by phone at (254) 247-5723.
