Fort Hood soldier identified as Temple Lake Park drowning victim

TEMPLE, TX — A Fort Hood soldier as been identified as the victim of a drowning at Temple Lake Park.

According to the Temple Police Department, around 4:57 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, Temple Police officers were notified of a missing swimmer at Temple Lake Park. Witnesses said 26-year-old Virgil Robinson was on an inflatable pool float and drifted from shore. While attempting to paddle back, he fell off the float and disappeared under the water.

Robinson's body was recovered at about 6:33 p.m. Justice of the Peace David Barfield has ordered an autopsy.

According to Temple PD, Robinson was a soldier stationed at Ford Hood.
