FORT HOOD, TX — The family of a World War II soldier who was killed in combat will be presented with a Purple Heart Medal.
Staff Sergeant Jesse Paul Johnson was a 1-8 Cavalry Soldier during WWII. He was mortally wounded on March 16, 1944 after he exposed himself to enemy fire during a battle on Manus Island, part of Papua New Guinea.
He passed away on March 17, 1944.
Fort Hood will present a Purple Heart Medal to the Johnson family during a ceremony at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 14.
