Man killed after train and vehicle collide identified

HOLLAND, TX — One man was killed after a train and vehicle collided on Thursday morning.

Officials on scene said the crash happened at approximately 10:50 a.m. near 12515 Mills Road in Holland.

The crash happened between a 2007 Ford Escape and an Amtrak train carrying about 177 passengers.

The Ford was traveling eastbound and the driver of the SUV drove onto the railroad tracks into the path of an oncoming passenger train. The vehicle was struck by the train.

The driver of the Ford, a 36-year-old man, was killed in the crash. He was later identified as Jesse Uhrig of Temple.

Uhrig was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Texas Department of Public Transportation will be investigating the crash.
