KILLEEN, TX — A Killeen ISD science teacher has died after being hospitalized with COVID-19.
Cathy Falkner, a science teacher at Ellison High School, passed away last night, according to a spokesperson for Killeen ISD.
"Ms. Falkner was last on campus November 20, before the Thanksgiving break and was hospitalized for COVID-19 in December," the district's statement said.
"The students and staff of Ellison High school will remember the positive impact she made on their lives during the three years she was on campus. Despite the illness, Ms. Falkner’s main concern was for her students and their continued success in her class. Her dedication educating students will be greatly missed.
We offer our condolences and prayers to her family during this difficult time. Support services have been made available for grieving students and staff."
In an email to Ellison High School parents, Principal David Dominguez said "we are heartbroken this morning to receive word that Ms. Falkner has passed away as a result of complications from COVID-19."
"Ms. Falkner's family has shared with us that, even during her illness, her concern was with her students and their well-being."
The school has scheduled a long-term substitute teacher for Ms. Falkner's classes for the coming weeks, according to Principal Dominguez's message.
