The Texas Department of Safety is reminding drivers to slow down and use extra caution while driving in the inclement weather after a trooper's vehicle was hit responding to an accident.

DPS added that they are actively working numerous crashes due to weather-related factors in the Central Texas area.

At 9:30 a.m., a DPS unit occupied by a state trooper was working an active crash scene on I-35 in Salado. A Mazda SUV driven by a 44-year-old man from Austin was approaching the crash scene.

DPS said the Mazda was traveling at an unsafe speed for the conditions and lost control. The Mazda collided with the rear of the DPS unit causing major damage to both vehicles.

The trooper and driver sustained minor injuries.
