Donors needed to help replenish blood inventory in Bell County

TEMPLE, TX — Due to a critical level of blood inventory, Central Texas Veterans Health Care System and Carter Blood Care have teamed up to sponsor a blood drive Wednesday, August 12, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center, 1901 Veterans Memorial Drive in Temple.

Three Carter Blood Care buses will be deployed to the medical center and set up in the Valet Parking entry area adjacent to the Teague Hospital, Building 204.

Donors must go through the screening point at the Avenue U gate, wear a face covering while on the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System campus, and tell the screeners they are there to donate blood. No one under the age of 18, including infants, are allowed.

Safety precautions by Carter Blood Care due to COVID-19 will:

  • Follow COVID-19 CDC Social Distancing Guidelines for all blood donations.
  • Sanitize blood collection stations after each donor.
  • Require staff to wear masks; however, masks are NOT required by donors when donating blood.
  • Restrict donors to four per hour to adhere to physical distancing on each of the Carter buses.
  • Have COVID-19 Antibody Testing available for all blood donors.

This blood drive is open to all Veterans, employees, and the general public.
