A deadly officer-involved shooting in Temple is raising a lot of questions tonight for one family and community leaders.
Twenty eight-year-old Michael Dean was killed on his daughter’s sixth birthday Monday at SE H K Dodgen Loop and Little River Road.
Dean's family visited the scene where he was killed Friday and created a memorial. However, they say they no closure.
"The department will conduct an internal investigation," said Interim Temple Police Chief Jim Tobin during a press conference Friday.
Dean was pulled over by an unidentified officer during a traffic stop but he never made it home that night.
His family is still waiting for answers about what led up to the shooting.
"I understand the family has concerns and questions, as does the community. It is my goal to answer those questions thoroughly and accurately following the completion of these investigations," said Interim Chief Tobin.
The Temple Police Department has asked the Texas rangers to conduct an investigation but people in the community want to make sure there's transparency and that their questions are answered.
"We feel this young man’s civil rights were grossly violated and the lack of transparency here saddens us," said community activist Reverend James Hill.
Reverend Hill is demanding TPD release the body cam video of the interaction between the officer and Dean.
"Absent of a weapon or any threatening manner to anyone you stop, it should not result in an assassination," said Reverend Hill.
The mayor of Temple is asking for a calm while the investigations are completed.
"We are asking for patience while these investigations are pending," said Interim Chief Tobin.
