TEMPLE, TX — With temperatures rising and the Fourth of July coming up, local hospitals are urging people to donate blood.

Baylor Scott and White in Temple is reaching out to the community to help build up their supply of donated blood.

The hospital said they are under 50 percent of what they need, and this time of year is when they need to make sure they have enough blood on hand.

They said they need to be ready for anything.

“Even at full capacity, we still are always trying to get as much blood as we can. Especially during these months where July 4 is coming up. Holiday weekend you know, you never know what's going to happen. We want to be prepared for any scenario,” said Justin Gammill, donor services recruiter for Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.

Baylor Scott and White is holding a blood drive on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., but you can donate at the hospital in Temple all year around.

All blood donated in Temple will stay local to help supply the Central Texas area.
