BELTON, TX — Dr Pepper has announced a local student as one of its finalist in the 11th annual 2019 Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway, being held during the Big 10 College Football Conference Championship.
The student, Marcus, attends Belton High School and will compete for the $100,000 in tuition by attempting to throw the most number of footballs into an oversized Dr Pepper can in 30 seconds.
There are four competitors total for the Big 10 award. The runner-up will still receive $25,000 towards their tuition.
Finalists are selected from all across the county and range in age from 18 to 24.
To become finalists, they submitted videos to Dr Pepper explaining how the tuition money will help them make an impact in the world.
All together, Dr Pepper will award $1 million to students through this year’s competitions.
"Dr Pepper and college football go hand-in-hand, and the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway not only demonstrates our commitment to the sport, but it is also our way of giving back to the fans by enabling them to make their academic goals a reality,” said Derek Dabrowski, Vice President of Brand Marketing for Dr Pepper.
The Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway has now awarded over $10 million to college students.
"This is an incredible group of finalists, all of whom have big plans to make a difference with the money they are trying to win. We are proud to be a part of their journey, and we can’t wait to see them take the field this weekend," said Dabrowski.
