BELTON, TX — Belton New Tech High School at Waskow is home of the newest national winner of the National History Day competition!

Aditi Bhat was one of five area students who competed in the national competition. Her entry "Deeds Not Words: The Suffragettes, Women Breaking Barriers" won first place in the senior division of the website category.

Her love of history is not the only reason for her success. Bhat says it's the classes she takes that have given her an advantage.

"We have digital media classes that teach us how to design different things, and all of those skills were used in this website category for my project, and I think that's really given me an advantage this year in the competition," she said.

Bhat competed in the regional history day competition back in February. Her project advanced to the Texas History Day before moving on to the National History Day competition held earlier this month. Both the Texas History Day and National History Day competitions were held virtually this year due to COVID-19.

Bhat has also been named a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar and will receive a scholarship to the National Academy of History.
