BELTON, Texas — Members of the Belton City Council will meet Tuesday to consider the city’s 2020 budget and tax rate proposals.
A $14.9 million general fund budget is expected to be on the table as members meet amid disagreements over changes to the formula used by the city to calculate the property tax rate.
Shifts of funds from the debt percentage rate to the maintenance and operations rate earned a nay vote from councilman David Leigh who argued the change would raise taxes on the average homeowner by 80 dollars annually.
The proposed budget also increases firefighter certification pay and reflects a slight bump in overall expenditures.
The special meeting is scheduled to take place at Belton City Hall at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
