BELL COUNTY, TX — A non-adversarial option for divorcing couples is gaining traction in Bell County. ‘Collaborative Divorce’ allows couples to negotiate a divorce in as little at three to six months.
“The courts are extremely backed up here in Bell County, and so we’re trying to better serve our clients and efficiently do the divorces here,” said Attorney Nancy Eaton, Law Office of Nancy Perry Eaton, PLLC.
For the first time in Bell County, attorneys are able to assist couples who wish to keep their children from having to go to court in the divorce proceedings.
“The court system is great for things like contract disputes, and real estate, things like that. It’s not a place for families and it’s not a place for kids,” said Eaton.
Attorneys represent each of the spouses, while a neutral designated party works to ensure all parties are working together to find solutions. The focus remains on setting goals for the process and making decisions for the future.
“It’s better for the children. The parents end up learning how to communicate with each other. They learn how to co-parent and they learn how to move forward and continue on that way,” said Eaton.
