TEMPLE, TX — Eight people were displaced overnight after a fire at a Temple apartment complex.

Temple Fire & Rescue said they were first called out to The District Apartments just after midnight for a report of a mattress fire outside the building. When firefighters arrived, the mattress fire was put out, but they found smoke coming from an upstairs apartment.

Residents were evacuated as crews began searching for the source of the smoke.

No one was hurt in the fire, but eight people from four apartments were displaced. The American Red Cross is working with them to help with any immediate needs. Temple College police opened a campus building where the displaced residents stayed until they were able to return to their apartments.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
