KILLEEN, TX — Parents in Bell County got up early today to get their kids ready for the first day of in-person classes at Killeen ISD.
Today marked the first day of in-person classes for the district and at least 49.1% of Killeen students were in attendance.
The district actually started one week earlier than originally planned due to a lack of student engagement and access to technology.
KISD says even though classes started sooner they were fully prepared for students to come back to campus.
"I hope our parents know that we are doing this for our children. That everything that we are really planning and working and where our focus has been is what is right for children. We are doing that with the utmost safety and all the measures that we’ve put into place have been thought out meticulously," said Taina Maya, KISD's Chief Communications and Marketing Officer.
The district says they are following all the recommended health guidelines to ensure that students are safe and healthy while on campus.
In-person classes are not mandatory in Killeen.
Parents can choose to have their student attend classes virtually as they have until this point.
