KILLEEN, TX — Books, books and more books! Nearly 900 to be exact.

In honor of National Reading Day, Scripps National and local media brands, like 25 News, partnered with local schools for the “If You Give a Child a Book … ” campaign.

On Thursday, 25 News donated hundreds of books to Peebles Elementary School in Killeen.

School officials said these types of resources are much more than just page turners in the classroom. The new books create a world of imagination and intellectual growth for the kids.

"Kids open a book, and they can become a pirate. They can become a mom. They can become a basketball player. It is just a really exciting time for them today," said Carol Correa, principal of Peebles Elementary School.

Over the next three weeks, 25 News will give away more than 2,000 books to students across Central Texas.
