FORT HOOD, TX — Leadership changes are in motion on Fort Hood. 1st Cavalry Division Commander Major General Paul Calvert is handing over the reigns to Major General Jeffrey Broadwater.
As he relinquishes his position, he reflected on his tenure. He said it is the people of Fort Hood that he will miss most.
“One: because they volunteered to serve. Two: because you see the commitment when you look them in the eyes and you have a conversation, you believe in what they’re doing. And three: we can have the best equipment most modernized army in the world but it takes people to operate and people to employ it,” said Maj. Gen. Calvert.
Major General Calvert deployed for Operation Freedom Sentinel, where he served as the Commanding General of Train, Advise, Assist Command in Afghanistan.
“I think that this is absolutely the most ready division that our army has, and there isn’t a single mission that we aren’t capable of winning,” said Maj. Gen. Calvert.
Major General Calvert said Maj. Gen. Broadwater has what it takes to lead the 1st Cavalry Division into the future.
“If I had the opportunity to pick my replacement, he would be first and foremost on my list,” said Maj. Gen. Calvert. “He’s a wonderful person. He’s got a great sense of humor. He’s got great intellect, and most importantly I think he’s got great demeanor and great temperament,” he continued.
Maj. Gen. Calvert is now assigned to work in our nation’s capitol for Army Staff.
