BELTON, TX — A teen was killed when trying to avoid a deer outside of Belton on Sunday.
DPS said that a 2016 Subaru was traveling northbound on FM 1123 just north of Hickerson Rd.
The driver of the vehicle was 20 years old, and the teen was riding in the vehicle as a passenger.
The driver saw a deer in the roadway and took action to avoid collision. The driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway
The car eventually hit a tree on the passenger side. The driver was able to escape the vehicle, and the 17-year-old passenger was trapped.
The Subaru went up in flames. When DPS arrived on scene, the 17-year-old was dead.
The crash is under investigation.
