TEMPLE, TX — Sixteen NICU nurses at Baylor Scott and White in Temple are preparing to be new moms...at the same time.
The hospital said there is usually a wave of staff who do get pregnant around this time but never this many at once.
Erica Gommert, who is nine-months pregnant with her son Case, is expected to give birth on June 10. She says it's been crazy working with so many pregnant women, but it's nice to have that shared experience.
"It's a lot, but it's nice because everybody is going through it at the same time so if you ever have any questions or experience something new most likely one of the girls has experience," Gommert said.
Thankfully, these nurses don't work the same shift, so they haven't been bumping bellies too much.
Baylor Scott and White also wants everyone to know that there will be no shortage of nurses. Although these nurses will be going on maternity leave, they won't all be gone at the same time.
"We've got plenty of support from our own staff and sister hospitals so we'll be good," Gommert said.
