1.3 million gallons of wastewater overflows in Temple after excessive rainfall

TEMPLE, TX — Due to recent storms and excessive rainfall, the City of Temple now has a total of 1.3 million gallons of wastewater overflow.

The city said the excessive amounts of rainfall surcharged the wastewater collection line, causing the discharge into Bird Creek.

The city has also notified the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality and crews will remove debris and properly disinfect the area.

The locations of the spills are at:

  • 4320 Lions Park Road with approximately 892,500 gallons
  • 2501 Westwood with approximately 161,250 gallons
  • 3420 Northwood with approximately 220,500 gallons
  • 3010 Ira Young with approximately 15,000 gallons
  • 3550 SW H K Dodgen Loop with approximately 21,000 gallons

The areas that are potentially affected are:

  • Bird Creek between Westwood Rd and Bird Creek Dr
  • Ira Young between S 57th and Interstate 35
  • SW H K Dodgen Loop at Bird Creek Terrace
