MCGREGOR, TX — A number of people have donated items to a family in McGregor in hopes that money raised from a weekend long garage sale will help a young Central Texan battling cancer.
"I'm only 25 years old, so I've had to shift my life in a completely different direction than I had planned to go," said Savanah Ponce.
She has had a long year. "I have stage 4 breast cancer, so it's a journey,” said Ponce.
The young woman was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in May 2018. Now, she relies on treatment to stay alive.
"I did months and months of chemo. I did six weeks of radiation, and then I had a liver ablation," said Ponce.
And that treatment comes at a cost. That is why this weekend her family has organized a garage sale to help raise money for her medical expenses.
"It turned out to be a lot bigger than we expected,” said Nancy Kinnear, Savanah’s mother. “We had a family donate some brisket and ribs, so we're selling those. And we had two different bakeries donate some baked goods along with the community. And then the community donated all this stuff to Savanah to help us out."
"Well it's going to help with any of my treatment costs. Any, you know, travel expenses that we need because I do go back and forth to Houston to get my treatment," said Ponce.
They shared every penny and even prayer helps.
"Without the support from everybody, it, the cost and everything, exceeds what we can do for her,” said Kinnear. “So without the help from everybody, Savanah wouldn't receive what she needs. And without receiving what she needs, I mean that would not be a good thing for Savanah.”
"Well I just want to thank them all. You know they've all done a whole lot. You know, more than I could ever express how grateful I am for it all," said Ponce.
Some of the donors for Ponce's Declutter 4 a Cause garage sale included:
- Cuppiecakes
- Southern Sisters Bakery and Boutique
- Pink Warrior Angels of Central Texas
- John Wilson
- Bertha Castillo
- Angelica Ponce
The family will host the garage sale again on July 14 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more on how you can get involved with her journey, just click here.
