COLLEGE STATION, TX — A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to sexually assault a person who tried to break up a fight the suspect was involved in.
According to the College Station Police Department, just after 9 a.m. on January 7, an officer responded to an apartment parking lot in the 400 block of Southwest Parkway. He arrived just in time to pull a man off of another individual, preventing a sexual assault.
Police say the officer was dispatched to an assault in the parking lot where one man was kicking another in the head. The assault happened after a hit-and-run crash.
Both men had been in the hit-and-run suspect vehicle, and the sexual assault suspect was the driver. The victim vehicle followed the suspect vehicle into the parking lot.
CSPD says an uninvolved person walking through the parking lot saw the fight and told the suspect to stop. The suspect then charged at and hit the uninvolved person, knocking them to the ground. He then removed articles of their clothing.
The officer arrived at the parking lot just as the suspect removed some of his own clothing and "took further actions to perpetrate a sexual assault." The officer ran up and quickly pulled the suspect off of the person.
Both the victim in the sexual assault and the victim in the fight suffered non-incapacitating injuries and were taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Police arrested 31-year-old Spencer Thomas Hanson of Bryan for attempted sexual assault and assault with bodily injury. Additional charges are possible.
Just two days prior, Hanson was released from custody after being arrested by the Bryan Police Department for burglary of a building and criminal mischief.
