BRYAN, TX — On Feb 12, Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) announced they have been alerted of multiple reports that scammers are calling customers and demanding 'past due' payments.
On their Facebook page, BTU clarified that they do not call customers and demand payment.
"Scammers are trying to take advantage of people who are concerned about the upcoming winter weather event." they wrote in part on Facebook.
Additionally, BTU warns scammers can manipulate their Caller ID to make it appear as if it were a BTU number, as well.
If you have been affected by this scam, you are urged to contact BTU by calling (979) 821-5700, and the College Station Police Department at (979) 764-3600.
