BRAZOS COUNTY, TX — In true Mardi Gras fashion, these pups are decked out and ready for their parade: the Krewe of Barkus.
"Instead of Valentine's day, there is a parade, related to Mardi Gras, in New Orleans, called the Mystic Krewe of Barkus, so we thought, we'd have our own Krewe of Barkus event," Allison Harper, animal services manager, City of Brenham said.
Putting a purple, gold, and green-themed spotlight on four-legged friends in Brenham Animals Service, looking, for their forever home.
"Not everyone likes to come into the shelter, so it gives us a chance to come into the community where people are more comfortable to see the pets we have for adoption," Harper said.
The animal services manager says, hosting these community outreach events, reminds people, that these animals are looking for a family.
"We really want to encourage people to come down, adopt, because these pets need to be adopted just like all the others," Harper said.
However, these festivities weren't exclusive to just the animals at Brenham Animal Service. Local pet owners brought their own four-legged friends to compete for prizes too.
"Even if they don't adopt that day, I think it just brings awareness, that the shelter is here, and that people can meet us," Harper said.
Hoping, these types of fun kid-friendly events, will create a bond with residents that will be useful in the future.
