COLLEGE STATION, TX — On Feb 4., around 12:03 P.M. CS officers were dispatched outside Park Cleaners located at 314 George Bush Dr.

Responding to a disturbance call, CS officers recognized, and realized, the suspect involved was already known to ask locals for help in the area. Additionally, that he built shelter, or stayed, in a homeless encampment within the McCollough Subdivision.

During this incident, the witness says Datarius McCoy asked him for money as he was exiting from Park Cleaners.

When the witness told him he couldn't help him, McCoy allegedly got upset and tried to open the driver's side door, reportedly twice.

Immediately fleeing the parking lot, when the witness circled around, he saw McCoy running past him with what was described as, "a very large knife", in the probable cause statement.

Receiving additional disturbance calls, fellow witnesses say, they saw McCoy running south from the scene, heading down Montclair Ave.

Located running south on Welsh, near Gurnsey, a CS officer says, McCoy, "looked back at him, and turned around, and continued running south". At that time, CS officers responded by activating their sirens to, "indicate he wanted the Defendant to stop". Again, CS officers say McCoy, "turned around again, looked at him and continued to run south on Welsh Ave."

As additional officers began to arrive, McCoy turned west on Park Place to avoid them; this, according to the probable cause statement.

From there, with numerous officials now surrounding McCoy on Park Place, he put his hands up and surrendered to police.

McCoy was charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Previous Conviction out of the 272nd District Court Bryan; this charge was later enhanced to a State Jail Felony.
