COLLEGE STATION, TX — At 9:45 A.M. CSPD received a civil disturbance call of a male acting erratically, threatening others around him at Southgate and 134 Luther St. with a handgun. Following a vehicle description given by the caller, dispatched CSPD saw a male matching the description in the same vehicle described.
After CSPD attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect exited his vehicle and began to flee, shooting several rounds from a handgun at the responding officer after they exited their vehicle to pursue him.
CSPD confirmed the identity of the suspect to be Johnathon Bridges, a 22-year-old Black male with an active warrant for a parole violation; they also noted his extensive criminal history of assault of offensives.
According to CSPD, after shooting at dispatched CS officers, Bridges ran into a stranger's apartment for refuge. CS officers worked to find out if any other people were currently inside the apartment; there was none.
Setting up a parameter, Bridges reportedly broke open a second-floor window and began firing rounds at CS officers that continued securing the area. Residents of the apartment complex the suspect fled into were also escorted to another location for their safety.
Once the residents were evacuated, they began the process of negotiations with the male subject. During this time, it's being reported Bridges fired several more rounds. However, nobody was shot or injured in the process. Additionally, SWAT was deployed to help de-escalate this scene, which lasted for five hours roughly.
At this time, Bridges is in custody after successful negotiations with CS officers. He has been charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault against a public servant, evading a detective, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of marijuana less than two ounces.
CS police have since reopened Wellborn Road, between Holleman Dr and George Bush Dr. and are no longer declaring this scene to be active.
