KILLEEN, TX — Killeen ISD has announced it will honor the Class of 2020 with a virtual commencement ceremony.
The district said the change was made due to COVID-19 restrictions in place prohibiting large gatherings and the continued closure of schools across Texas/
Killeen ISD said the virtual graduation will allow graduating seniors to be certified without delay, valedictorians and salutatorians to deliver their speeches, and for all students to be honored for their accomplishments.
Students will receive an email with graduation registration information, including steps to upload a photo of themselves in a cap and gown. Photos must be uploaded by May 1 to be included in the ceremony.
The district said students will be required to submit a photo in their district provided cap and gown and accept the Killeen ISD Virtual Graduation agreement, similar to traditional commencement organizers. Those who do not submit a picture will be announced by name with their graduating class and included in the program.
Students will have the opportunity to personalize a short message on their graduation slate.
The district says if the opportunity allows, they will analyze the feasibility for an in-person ceremony in July.
KISD also announced students will receive a reimbursement for the cost of their cap and gown. They can expect a reimbursement from Herff Jones by July 1, 2020.
