This thrift shop in Temple does more than just provide discounted clothes

TEMPLE, Texas — “I like to find happiness when people come here so there’s a lot of characters in this store and that we make a difference in lives and make it something different than just a regular thrift store," Executive Director, Caitlin West said.

Temple Christian Outreach has been serving the community of Temple for 57 years.

From groceries to utilities, furniture, and clothes, everything you see in the thrift shop is all donated from other local organizations like Just Between Friends, sold for as low as $1.

“Just to give families an opportunity to have better brands and dress their kids nicely, if they couldn’t really afford it normally and giving kids an opportunity to feel special and different, ” West said.

Some deals include "stuff all you can see in a bag" for $5.

Plus, on certain days, sales are targeted for kids’ clothing, shoes, purses, appliances and rack clothing.

Caitlin told me her grandmother inspired her to keep the tradition going of giving back.

"It was her legacy to serve others and it’s mine now, so I just love being with others and helping others and trying to change hearts," West said.

The money the organization makes from the thrift shop is used to help the community.

Additionally, with the help of the Central Texas Food Bank, every other Thursday the non profit hosts a food giveaway.

Temple Christian Outreach has already set a record of serving bags of food to 386 cars in an hour with the help of volunteers.

“A huge basket full of different kind of produce and watermelon and grapes, and breads and meats,” she said

The nonprofit has various $1 sales. You can find more information over at their Facebook.
