HEWITT, Texas — It’s a memory that will last a lifetime.

“It was a surprise so I thought wow… I thought this was going to be an amazing ceremony and turns out it is so far,” Midway ISD student Marshall Kolb said.

The Midway ISD pitcher received an appointment to the United States Air Force academy by local Congressman Pete Sessions.

“He's well tested, he’s prepared and ready and we think he’s going to do great at the Air Force Academy,” Rep. Sessions said.

Kolb told me serving our country is something he’s been wanting to do for a long time.

“Well, I first watched Top Gun with my dad when I was 8-years-old and I told him this is what I want to do with my life. As I got older I also realized the U.S.A. was the greatest country in the world, so from then on I just wanted to serve,” Kolb said.

Congressman Sessions said Kolb is the ideal candidate for one of the nation's most prestigious military academies.

“We went through a very deliberate process and checked him out. Not only is he academically really great, athletically really great, but he is a great young man,” Rep. Sessions said.

“Congressman Sessions, thanks for having so much confidence in me and allowing this kid to have the opportunity to achieve his dream,” Kolb said.

Marshall will report to the Academy in Colorado this June.

“I will represent Congressman Sessions, all of you guys, Midway High School, the City of Waco, the State of Texas, and this great country of ours with everything I am,” Kolb said.
