HEWITT, TX — The driver involved in a vehicle fire on Tuesday was killed.
DPS said at 4:20 a.m., troopers responded to a crash on I-35 SB in Hewitt off Sun Valley Road, near mile marker 328. An 18-wheeler left the roadway and began driving off-road.
The vehicle lost control, overturned and became fully engulfed after attempting to return to the roadway.
The driver, 63-year-old Thomas Schultz of Hutchins, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified, said officials.
TxDOT said all lanes were closed due to a truck fire.
