COLLEGE STATION- Texas A&M hosts Alabama in a women’s basketball game on Sunday, January 13 at 1 p.m. The first 250 kids in attendance at the North and South Entrances receive Mini A&M Basketball Hoops, with tickets starting at $4 for youth and $7 for adults.
The game is broadcast on ESPNU with Melissa Lee and Steffi Sorensen on the call. The Aggies (12-4, 1-2 SEC) are putting together one of the finest defensive seasons in school history, holding opponents to 56.2 points per game, the lowest output for Texas A&M opponents in a decade. Texas A&M is holding their opposition to a program-best 35.7% shooting from the field and an SEC-leading 25.7% on 3-pointers.
On the other end of the floor, the Aggies boast Division I’s active career leader in scoring average, Chennedy Carter with 22.2 points per game. Carter scored a season-high 27 in the Aggies’ last game, a 50-43 win at Vanderbilt on Jan. 10. Kayla Wells adds 13.8 points per game and Ciera Johnson contributes 11.4 per contest.
Alabama (9-7, 1-2 SEC) is coming off a 66-56 loss to Auburn, where the Tide turned the ball over 25 times. Jasmine Walker is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, with averages of 14.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Cierra Johnson (13.8 per game) and Jordan Lewis (13.5 per game) also average double figure points for the Crimson Tide.
Texas A&M has won all seven previous meetings with Alabama, all of which have come in Southeastern Conference play. Last season, the Aggies won 73-54 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., as Carter and now-graduated Khaalia Hillsman each scored 20 points.
This is the Aggies’ only home game in the span from Jan. 3-Jan. 27, as Texas A&M is in the middle of a stretch with four of five games on the road. The Aggies’ next contest, after a mid-week bye, is Sunday, January 20 at Georgia.
