The City of Bryan approved a recommendation to expand the existing definition of "sexual encounter center" to include language that defines robots and the use of robots for sexual pleasure.
The city said the goal of the expansion is to close a gap in city ordinances that does not define a new type of adult entertainment use relating to anthropomorphic robots.
Expanding the definition is not intended to restrict or deny access by adults to sexually oriented materials, which are protected by the First Amendment, the city said.
The ordinance text amendments were approved at a city council meeting on Jan. 8.
