College Station police have identified the man accused of killing a convenience store clerk on Sunday night.

Police said it happened just before 8:30 p.m. at the Valero Corner Store at the corner of Rock Prairie Road and State Highway 6.

Officers said 29-year-old Rufus Edward Lockett, of Brenham, entered the store and demanded money from the clerk. Lockett fired at the clerk when he was told that she wasn't able to provide any money, according to a statement from College Station Police.

Lockett was seen leaving the store in a passenger sedan. He was arrested around 4:20 a.m. and charged with aggravated robbery.

Lockett was booked into the Brazos County Jail with a bond set at $250,000.

The victim, identified as Anita Jean Randle, 54, of College Station, later died at a local hospital.

Police tied Lockett to another gas station shooting that happened on Dec. 3 at the Apple Stop.

On Dec. 20, Lockett was charged with aggravated robbery, as well as possession of a firearm by a felon.
