Little River Healthcare has closed effective immediately, according to a message from the healthcare system.
"Due to an unfortunate turn of events, Little River Healthcare is shutting its doors immediately," the message says.
The healthcare system, based in Rockdale, has locations in Rockdale, Cameron, Bastrop, Georgetown, Harker Heights, Temple, Milam County, Round Rock and Waco.
In July, Little River Healthcare filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In a statement made on July 24, the company said it intends to remain open for business and continue providing medical services without any interruption in patient care.
On Nov. 30, they filed a motion to convert the filing to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Then on Dec. 4, they expedited the hearing to consider the case.
They also sent a WARN letter to all employees. 298 people will no longer be employed as of Friday.
Those who call the clinics and hospitals within Little River Healthcare are given a message that it has ceased operations.
Central Texas News Now reached out to Providence Healthcare Network, another local provider.
"Little River physicians have provided high quality care to Waco, Temple, Georgetown, and the surrounding communities for many years. After Little River Healthcare filed for bankruptcy in July, Providence has been working to provide a seamless transition for these physicians to continue providing care to their patients. Unfortunately, the Little River Healthcare facilities unexpectedly closed this week. Providence welcomes a partnership with physicians formerly affiliated with Little River, as their continued commitment to residents of Central Texas aligns with the compassionate healthcare we provide to our local communities," said Kathy Hadlock, spokesperson for Providence Healthcare Network.
