Waco police arrested a man after he said his intent to commit suicide on the Doris Miller grounds at the VA complex Saturday evening.

It started just before 8:30 p.m. and forced police to re-route northbound traffic at Rolando.

About an hour after it started, the man surrendered to police in the parking lot of the Valero station. Charges against him are pending right now.

"This evening around 8 p.m. we get a call from a deputy, a McLennan County deputy that there is a subject on Salem Way that is suicidal and is planning on coming to the VA hospital to commit suicide on the ground. he had left the house before we got there so we had units come to this area just to see if we could find the vehicle.  We ended up finding the vehicle over here at the Valero parking lot. We started negotiating with him he got out of the vehicle at one time with a shotgun continued to negotiate, he said he wanted a cup of coffee. So we went to the vVlero got them to give us a cup of coffee," said a McLennan County official.

The man was taken to Baylor Scott and White to be evaluated.
