The Waco Animal Control Services said that bat has tested positive for rabies in Waco. The bat was located on an outside wall in the 600 block of Austin Ave.

Animal control received the call about the bat on Sept. 18 and sent it for tests as a precaution.

An investigation as to any possible contact by humans or other animals in the area turned up negative.

Although there is no indication of human contact, the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District has been made aware of the finding. This appears to be an isolated case and citizens are reminded to be cautious to not come in contact with bats or other strange animals at any time.
