A man was taken to the hospital overnight after he was shot in the face by a woman he strangled, police said.

Waco police said the incident happened at the Arlington Farms Apartments in the 1800 block of Primrose Drive around 11:55 p.m. Tuesday.

A man and a woman with a personal relationship were arguing when the suspect, 40-year-old Homer Hampton, grabbed the woman around the throat and strangled her, police said.

Hampton had a gun, and the victim was able to take it and point it at him. The victim then shot Hampton in the face after he charged at her. Police said the gun fired either in self-defense or on accident.

Hampton was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The victim was seen with injuries consistent with strangulation.

Police said no arrests have been made, but they will continue to investigate.
