A third-grade teacher at J.H. Hines Elementary School will soon be adding a new library to her classroom.

Angelica Samadhi was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the Book Love Foundation, which is enough to order around 150 books.

Samadhi has only been teaching for about a year and has been trying to build her library since. She has a few books that were passed down to her by a retired teacher, but she wanted to offer her students more.

"Usually by middle school, they've got TV, video games and they won't pick up a book," Samadhi said. "So I want to make sure we teach that love for reading beforehand."

She believes students are more likely to pick up a book for fun if they have plenty of options to choose from.

"A lot of the kids here read for AR points, read for information and don't just get lost in a book and we want them to get lost in a book. Several different genres, experience things, find series they love just to keep reading," Samadhi said.

The books should arrive in the next two weeks.
