Gatesville police are investigating after employees in their department and residents reported hearing a loud boom on Friday morning.

The sound described as an "explosion" was reported at 9:52 a.m.

Police Chief Nathan Gohlke said at this point the department has not located anything that would indicate an explosion occurred.

The sound worried residents in the town where a hospital explosion took the lives of three and injured others almost two months ago

Belva Okruch feared the worst.

"Just a big boom and I thought we had another explosion. My daughter called and asked if I was all right," said Okruch.

"We sent out pretty much all our deputies that were available to different locations looking for the source. Find anything? No, at this time we haven't," said Chief Deputy Mark Wilcox of the Coryell County Sheriff's Department.

So far, Fort Hood, SpaceX and area construction companies all claim they had nothing to do with today's boom.

For now, most authorities believe it came from the "sonic boom" of a faster-than-sound aircraft.
