Natural gas flaring planned for Fort Hood and Temple

Posted
and last updated

Atmos Energy crews and contractors will be overseeing a controlled natural gas flaring on Fort Hood and Temple this week.

On July 10, the company will be performing maintenance on a natural gas pipeline starting around 8 a.m. at 31st Street between Tank Destroyer Boulevard and Battalion Avenue on Fort Hood.

On July 11, the company will perform the operations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 11601 Little River Rd. near E. Blackland Road in Temple.

A flaring is a standard practice to safely burn natural gas that must be removed from a specific section of the pipeline so that employees can work on the pipe.

Those in the area may notice a large, controlled flame and moderate noise during the duration of the flaring.
