Bell County to get $1.4 million election equipment upgrade

The Bell County Commissioners Court has approved a $1.4 million election equipment upgrade.

Bell County has previously used paper ballots only.

But,  this new upgrade will allow voters to choose to use an express vote instead.

The County says the upgrade will help avoid a possible malfunction with the nearly 15 year old equipment in future elections.

"It's electronic. You make your selections, you verify them before they're even printed, then it's printed. You can verify that before it's even cast as a ballot. So, there is still a paper trail just like if it were the pre-printed ballot," Melinda Luedecke, the Bell County Elections Administrator, said.

The Bell County Elections Office hopes to have the new voting equipment by November.
