The Waco Police Department is investigating a shooting in the 5100 block of Sanger Avenue.

At 12:53 a.m., the male victim was approached by an armed male suspect who was dressed in a black hoodie and blue jeans. The suspect demanded money from the victim, who then pulled his gun and began shooting at the suspect, Waco police said.

The suspect shot the victim in the right leg and he was rushed to Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in unknown condition.

Police say the shooter fled across Sanger Avenue towards a smoke shop, which was damaged by gunfire. The gunman then fled towards a Chevron gas station across the street from the original scene. That suspect is still on the loose.

"I just heard about six to seven gunshots and I saw a person and he looked like he was in disarray and just stutter around a little bit, and then he took off running and that was it," witness William Skiles said.

Officers recovered a gun from the scene, but it's unclear if the weapon was used in the shooting.

The incident is still under investigation.
