A new veteran facility is no longer just a dream. The Bailey House is in the stages of becoming a reality.

The house is in Manvel, but, it has a statewide reach.

"I'm assisting building this house back up because I found a purpose, and that's the purpose of the house, is to help other veterans find a purpose," Mickey Purtlebaugh, co-founder of the Bailey House, said.

Mickey Purtlebaugh sold everything and moved his family to Texas back in 2012.

"We wanted to be here because Texas is known for its vet friendliness," Purtlebaugh added.

He has seen the Texan friendliness first hand in just three short weeks as volunteers have flooded in to support the new Bailey House Veterans Facility, and the house seems to be already serving its purpose.

"We've been getting about 10-15 volunteers a day up there that felt they had no purpose. But, just letting them push a broom, meeting other veterans, they have found purposes. And we know of at least three that have gotten jobs through other veterans," Purtlebaugh said.

The Bailey House is a veterans-helping-veterans-based 30-bedroom home that will start out as a day-use facility, but eventually offer temporary housing for veterans along with recreation options, counseling and attorney services.

"We wanna work with veterans that have PTSD, TBI and MST known as Military Sexual Trauma," Purtlebaugh added.

Purtlebaugh has suffered with PTSD in the past which he admits to coping with the wrong way, violence and alcohol. So, he wants the Bailey House to help others avoid his mistakes...

"Because I had a hard time finding the proper help when I got out, we want to be to help the other veterans, and the active duty, and just to throw this in there, we also want to be there for emergency personnel," Purtlebaugh said.

Until the Bailey House can finalize their status as a non-profit, they ask for prayers and likes on Facebookto help spread the word.

The Bailey House is named after the character in It's a Wonderful Life, George Bailey, according to their Facebook page.
