One dead after police chase ends in Temple, pointed shotgun at police

Update: Cameron Police identified the man they shot and killed as 27-year-old Richard Jeremiah Ramirez.

A man is dead after a high-speed chase in Temple.

Police say the chase started in Cameron just before noon on Saturday. 

The Cameron Police Department were searching for a vehicle that was reportedly taken at gunpoint. 

Ramirez fled from police in the car and drove to the city of Temple. 

According to police, Ramirez called 9-1-1 and threatened the officers.

The chase ended at 25th Avenue on Avenue G and 25th Avenue Saturday afternoon. 

According to police, Ramirez pointed a shotgun at police and they shot him. He died at the scene. 

Police have not confirmed which officer fired the shots. However, the Texas Rangers will be the lead investigators on the case. 

The Texas Department of Public Safety said that the officers involved in the shooting were troopers Ernest Del Bosque, Enrique Hernandez and Cameron police officer Jeffrey Teasdale.
