The body of a Belton High School senior was found Monday at Belton Lake's Temple Lake Park.

Police got the call around 1:30 p.m. after the teen's friends saw him go under the water but never saw him resurface.

Morgan's Point Resort's dive team searched for the student, who was under water for almost three hours. His body was found around 3:15 p.m. Officials say the temperature of the water was 64 degrees.

Belton Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon says Monday was Senior Day. The day included many activities for students, like a trip to a local water park. A visit to Belton Lake was not part of the school's events, Kincannon says.

"I have been in education for 26 years. I've been in administration for 20 years. This has been a very difficult three days. I'm a mom of a high school student in Belton High School, and this is a tragedy for our Belton ISD family," Kincannon said.

The student was at the park with five other classmates. The other students gave their statements to police.

The name of the student has not been released.
