50-year-old man killed after head-on crash in Waco identified

WACO, TX — Police identified the man who was killed after a crash involving a church van on Lake Shore Drive. Eight children suffered minor injuries.

According to the Waco Police Department, the driver of a minivan, 50-year-old Mark Vanmartur of Waco, crossed the center line and crashed into a van from the First United Methodist church head on.

The Waco Fire Department says the driver of the minivan died at the scene. The driver's 7-year-old daughter, who was a passenger, was transported to the hospital.

The driver of the church van and eight children on board sustained minor injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates Vanmartur had been traveling east on Lake Shore and crossed over into the westbound lanes striking the church van head-on.

Waco PD says all injured victims were transported to Hillcrest Hospital with not life-threatening injuries.

Accident reconstructionist, crime scene technicians, Waco fire, AMR, City of Waco traffic and safety coordinator were on the scene.
